LiDAR Cane — Support
LiDAR Cane turns your iPhone's LiDAR sensor into touch: haptic feedback that lets blind and low-vision users feel the distance to obstacles, in cane mode (hold the phone and feel taps) or touch mode (explore the depth of the scene with a fingertip on the screen).
Requirements
An iPhone with a LiDAR scanner: iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro and Pro Max models. The app cannot work on non-Pro iPhones because they have no LiDAR hardware.
Common questions
I feel no vibration
- Check the phone is an iPhone Pro model with LiDAR (see above).
- Check camera permission is granted: iOS Settings → LiDAR Cane → Camera.
- In cane mode, taps only play when something is inside the configured range (by default between 0.5 and 3 meters ahead). Open space is deliberately silent.
- System Haptics off can mute feedback: iOS Settings → Sounds & Haptics → ensure haptics are enabled.
I hear no spoken distance
- Double-tap with two fingers anywhere on the screen in either mode.
- Turn the media volume up — speech plays even with the silent switch on, but not at volume zero.
How do I change how it feels?
Open Settings from the home screen. Every slider plays a haptic preview while you adjust it, and your combinations can be saved as named presets. The voice that speaks distances can be chosen by ear under Both Modes — Voice.
Safety
LiDAR Cane is an awareness aid. It is not a replacement for a white cane, guide dog or other primary mobility aid.
